D2560 is built using the 32nm Saltwell architecture with a Cedarview processor core
Chip maker Intel has introduced a new dual core processor, D2560, which is more advanced than the D2550 series launched in the first quarter of this year.
The new CPU is built using the 32nm Saltwell architecture with a Cedarview processor core.
D2560 works at a speed of 2 GHz, which is faster than the D2550's 1.86 GHz but 133 MHz slower than the previously canceled D2700 Cedarview chip.
D2560 claimed to consume a maximum power of 10 watts as with other Cedarview processors and is also capable of running four threads in parallel like the D2550 processor.
Both Atom D2550 and D2560 will be availabe for a purchase price of $47.
Earlier this month, Intel had introduced its new Atom processor-based storage application that allows consumers and small businesses to protect their digital data.
In September this year, Intel had released new Atom processor powered tablets operating on Microsoft's new Windows 8 operating system as well as roped in device makers including Samsung Electronics and Hewlett Packard (HP).
For the third quarter of 2012, Intel's revenue declined to $13.5bn, compared to $14.23bn for the corresponding quarter in 2011.
