New Zealand-based Monkey Wizard Brewery is to double its production capacity to catch up with growing demand from Auckland.
The brewery produces Steampunk Ale and Pomona Traditionelle cider. They are available in 750ml champagne bottles for $30 at the brewery's tasting room, reported stuff.co.nz.
Monkey Wizard tasting room owner Jacquie Jenkinson said some independent bottle shops in Auckland had called her out of the blue to ask if they could stock Steampunk Ale, a strong Belgian-style ale.
Monkey Wizard founder and brewer Mat Elmhirst said demand from Auckland was doubling the production at the brewery.
The 7.3% ABV Steampunk Ale is fermented at very high temperatures. It possesses malty character, fruity finish and esters of toffee, figs and plums and contains ambergris, a whale byproduct, for amplifying flavors in the beer.
Elmhirst is making the Pomona Traditionelle cider in the authentic way, using cider apples grown by Barry Eastwood in the Motueka Valley and fermenting them using the wild yeasts found in the apples.
