DSM has announced that the company’s new cheese-ripening solution, Pack-Age has been awarded Bronze in a packaging innovation contest, 'De Gouden Noot'.
The ready-to-use packaging solution Pack-Age is made from Akulon polyamide 6 which delivers properties critical to the effective ripening and preservation of cheeses, produces a film with food mechanical strength and provides a barrier against oxygen, moisture and CO2.
Pack-Age allows hard to semi-hard cheeses to be ripened naturally to the perfect flavor and also protects against mold growth on the surface, resulting in better productivity and lower food waste.
The film improves the ripening of cheese, increases the shelf life and reduces the product losses associated with the application and also the removal of the crust.
According to the company, the breathable film results in value and quality of the cheese and delivers a better yield with the use of less material, when compared with coated cheeses.
The Netherlands Packaging Centre (NVC) organizes the 'De Gouden Noot' contest to encourage innovations in packaging and packaged products.
