Blue Chip Technology Has Designed a Multicore Cortex-A9

Blue Chip Technology has designed a multicore Cortex-A9 based computer board with a dual display, CAN and Mini PC-Express peripherals in a fan-less embedded computer.

Designated the RE3, it is available as a Cortex-A9 single core, dual core and quad core.

Designed and manufactured in the UK, the RE3 increases processing performance and peripheral options for the company's range of computer boards which are used in automotive, medical, digital signage and industrial control.

There are GSM/GPRS, WiFi, Bluetooth, CAN, GPS and camera and video capabilities.

"It is a great achievement by our engineering team," said Barry Husbands, managing director at Blue Chip Technology, which supplies single board computers to OEM manufacturers and also undertakes complete product contract manufacturing.

“We have been building a formidable in-house engineering and design capability over recent years,” said Husbands.

“The RE3 is very much the result of this effort. In this respect we are also able to easily customise the board and assist with software development and enclosure design, offering many technology companies a fast route to market with proven technology.”

According to Husbands, dual display support is becoming important in embedded systems for a control surface with touch on one display and then a second display showing something else, such as public information.

Blue Chip will be presenting both a paper and half-day workshop at this years’ Device Developers’ Conference which takes place in Bristol (May 14), Cambridge (May 16) and Manchester (May 22).

Both will explore how smart-phone technology is enabling a new generation of industrial quality single board computers and how engineers can exploit this technology to create innovative solutions.
