Butterkist, a UK-based popcorn brand, has collaborated with packaging company Benson has launched a design competition for its microwave range.
The competition, launched for students, challenges them to chalk out a new, constructively striking carton to be able to hold around three to six sachets of popcorn, featuring three available flavors of the brand.
Commenting on the development, Benson marketing manager Nikki Clark said the event represents a tremendous opportunity for students to showcase their abilities and talents to a huge audience, enhance their CV and kick start a career in packaging design.
"With cartonboard as the predominant material, designers can incorporate plastic window film if desired, and their new and exciting design could offer consumers a way to transform the carton into a sharing pack," explained Clark.
"Of course, size constraints, with a maximum footprint of 160 x 160mm and height of 200mm, must be taken into consideration as well."
Butterkist brand manager Helena Blincow said, "We are looking to today's design students to bring something different to the world of popcorn. I am looking forward to seeing what new and innovative packaging concepts our young designers can create."
To take part in the competition, participants must be students, part- or full-time at a college or university in the UK or overseas. Deadline for the registrations is set on 1 November 2013 through www.bensongroup.co.uk.
Winners would be awarded a cash prize of £250 along with one week work experience in the design studio at Benson's Bardon, Leicestershire headquarters and production facility.
Jury panel, meanwhile, includes Butterkist brand manager Helena Blincow, Butterkist packaging development team leader Dean Parkin and Benson's Nikki Clark.
