Volkswagen has announced to recall unspecified number of vehicles in China to fix direct shift gearbox transmission.
The problem in direct shift gearbox reportedly causes cars to unintentionally speed up or slow down which could cause accidents.
Volkswagen along with its local joint ventures has announced the voluntary recall after coming under security from China's state-run China Central Television (CCTV).
According to Chinese media, the company had also received a notice from General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) who said that some of the company's direct shift gearbox (DSG) transmissions have defects that may cause engine power failures.
Volkswagen's spokesman was quoted by Reuters as saying that the company will recall both locally made and imported cars.
The company will release the details and the number of vehicles to be recalled at a later date.
