M/A-COM Technology Solutions Inc of Lowell, MA, USA (which makes analog semiconductors, components and subassemblies for analog, RF, microwave and millimeter-wave applications) has launched the MAAL-011078, a single-stage, low-noise, high-gain amplifier in a 2mm 8-lead plastic surface-mount package that offers ultra-low noise figure and high gain for wireless infrastructure, WiFi and L- and S- band applications.
Covering a wide bandwidth between 700MHz and 6GHz, the low-noise amplifier (LNA) has noise figures of 0.35dB at 1.9GHz, 0.5dB at 2.6GHz, 0.6dB at 3.5GHz and 1.0dB at 5.8GHz; gain of 23dB at 1.9GHz, 22dB at 2.6GHz, 19dB at 3.5GHz and 14.5dB at 5.8GHz; OIP3 (output third-order intercept point) of 33dBm at 1.9GHz, 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz and 30dBm at 5.8GHz; and P1dB (output power at 1dB gain compression point) of 21dBm at 1.9GHz, 2.6GHz and 3.5GHz and 19dBm at 5.8GHz.
Return loss can be optimized over narrow bands by implementing simple external matching networks. The integrated active bias circuit allows direct connection to 3V or 5V voltage supply and minimizes variations over temperature and process. The bias circuit voltage supply (VBIAS) can be utilized as an enable pin to power the device up and down during operation.
“This LNA is a designed as a second generation of MAAL-011076 and MAAL-011075,” says product manager Amer Droubi. “It is designed using very low-noise process and has more gain and bandwidth than any other LNA in the market,” he claims. “Matching is done externally in order to enable customers to make the necessary compromise between return loss, gain, OIP and noise figure.”
Production quantities and samples of the MAAL-011078 are available from stock.
