German design company, VerDeSoft has collaborated with Innovia Films to develop a new pack design, ‘breadbox’ using Innovia’s compostable, cellulose-based material, NatureFlex NK film.
According to Innovia, the new 'breadbox' prototype pack is made of board and shaped like a real breadbox with a roll down top and transparent window and has been sized to hold an individual portion of a loaf of bread.
VerDeSoft founder Thomas Reissig said that end-users are increasingly looking for packaging which looks good and also offers green credentials besides protecting the product inside.
"This pack ticks all of these boxes and more," Reissig said.
The film used in the window application offers benefits for packing and converting including inherent dead fold and anti-static properties, gloss and transparency, resistance to grease and oil, good barrier to gases, aromas and mineral oils and a wide heat-seal range.
VerDeSoft's sister company and technological arm VerDeTech is set to feature the breadbox prototype pack and other new packaging concepts at FachPack in Nuremberg from 25 to 27 September 2012.
