Volkswagen Will Upgrade The 2013 Models

German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen is planning to upgrade the 2013 models of the Beetle Turbo, Beetle Turbo Convertible, and the Jetta GLI, which will be launched in June 2013.

As part of the upgrade, the vehicles will be equipped with new version of the EA888 2L turbocharged and direct-injected TSI engine mated to the manual transmission that would generate an output of 210hp and torque of 207lbft at 5300rpm.

With the new engine, the Beetle Turbo coupe will offer acceleration of 0-60mph in 6.6sec, 0.2sec less compared to the previous version, while the GLI will take 6.7sec to reach 60mph from standing position.

The engine is being manufactured at a new factory in Silao, Mexico, as part of Volkswagen's ongoing $5bn investment in the North American market.

Other upgrades in the engine will include a thinwall crankcase casting, exhaust headers that are integrated into the cylinder head, smaller diameter main bearings, roller bearings for the twin balancer shafts and a crankshaft with four counterweights in place of eight.

The Beetle Turbo and Beetle Turbo Convertible will come with the new R-Line bumpers, which will have grained black surfaces and chrome-framed turn signals at the front and a diffuser at the rear, while the Jetta GLI will LED taillights on the three trims.
