Global packaging manufacturer ASG (AGI-Shorewood Group) has developed a new automated magnetic-coating inline process for a new line of chewing gum marketed by a gum manufacturer.
The folding packs feature a new type of magnetic closure and are considered to be a 'game changer' in the confectionery industry.
ASG director of innovation Greg Chup said the magnetic closure lets consumers open and close the new gum packets comfortably without the typical wear and tear of most cartons.
"Our new process features a coating we apply during printing," Chup said.
By expanding applications to other consumer product segments such as personal care, home entertainment, beauty and cosmetics, the company is seeking to make the most of its investment in the new magnetic printing technology.
ASG worked with the magnetic extrusion technology developer MagnetNotes for the new process.
The company, which comprises two separate legal entities -- AGI-Shorewood US and AGI-Shorewood International, serves industries including health and beauty, pharmaceutical, home entertainment, consumer electronics, confectionery and specialty foods, spirits, and sporting goods.
