Ta-I Is Expected to Significantly Expand Its Ceramic Heat Dissipation Substrate Business

Taiwan-based Ta-I Technology is expected to significantly expand its ceramic heat dissipation substrate business in 2013, thanks to an influx of pull-in orders from LED lighting companies overseas, according to industry sources.

Ta-I has recently ramped up its heat sink substrate output to 60,000-70,000 units a month from an average of 50,000 units in 2012. The company has total capacity of 150,000-200,000 heat sink substrates a month.

However, the company announced recently that it plans to invest NT$500 million (US$16.89 million) to further expand its heat sink substrate capacity in 2013.

Ta-I is more conservative about the business outlook for its smaller chip resistors, such as those in 0201 and 01005 sizes, as the capacity utilization rates for its resistor lines are lower than expected in the current quarter.

Ta-I posted revenues of NT$339 million in January, increasing 18.1% sequentially and 36.6% on year, according to company data.
