Volkswagen Plans to Recall 384,181 Vehicles in China Due to Defective Gearbox

German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen is planning to recall 384,181 vehicles in China, due to defective gearbox.

According to a General Administration of Quality Supervision of China, the recall affects the vehicles manufactured between December 2008 and March 2013.

Models affected by the recall include both imported and locally manufactured variants of the Golf Variant, Cross Gold, Audi A3, Bora, Sagitar, Magotan, Touran, Octavia and Passat.

According to the company, an electronic malfunction in the control unit or a lack of oil pressure inside the gearbox mechatronics may result in a power interruption.

Under the recall that is expected to begin on 02 April 2013, the company with its local joint ventures is expected to replace the current gearboxes with improved ones and upgrade the controlling software.
