US-based producer of folding cartons Graphic Packaging International is set to close its plant in Gillingham, UK leading to the loss of 170 jobs.
The plant, which manufactures food cartons, was earlier owned by Contego and was part of a major acquisition by Graphic Packaging during 2012.
Graphic Packaging, which intends to cease operations at the plant by 30 September, took the decision as part of its efforts to align and optimize its supply chain footprint.
Majority of work that is being carried out in Gillingham plant at present, is expected to be moved to the company's sister facility in Leeds, Yorkshire.
