FSA Has Again Suspended Operations at Farmbox Meats

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has again suspended operations at Farmbox Meats over food safety concerns.

FSA noted that the approval has been withdrawn over hygiene standards. However, the company has disputed the claims and plans to appeal against the decision. The owner of the plant, Dafydd Raw-Rees, has threatened to take legal action against the agency.

FSA spokesman said that the agency has withdrawn the company's business approval to operate as a cutting plant and cold store facility.

The business is entitled to appeal this decision, therefore the FSA cannot provide further details at this stage, the spokesman added.

Farmbox Meats of Aberystwyth, mid Wales was one of the first two facilities to be raided in the UK over claims that it has sold horsemeat labeled as beef and the FSA has suspended the operations at the plant in February. In March, the company was allowed to re-open and FSA then warned Farmbox Meats that it would withdraw approval if the business fails to comply with all of the agency's requirements.
