STSP Saw Its Aggregate Revenue for The First Eight Months of This Year

Taipei,Oct.12,2012--The Southern Taiwan Science Park(STSP),one of Taiwan's top three science parks, saw its aggregate revenue for the first eight months of this year amounted to NT$401.6 billion,up 4.29%year on year(YoY),with the growth mainly led by semiconductor companies operating there, according to the report issued by STSP Administration.

A positive sign of revenue recovery of high-tech industries in the STSP is that the two-month revenue for July and August reached NT$116.9 billion,up 12.55%from the total for May and June,or 23.64%over the corresponding figure achieved a year earlier.

Separately, the optoelectronic sector in the park posted July-August revenue of around NT$56 billion,up 14.12%from a two-month span earlier or 11.64%from a year earlier,to command a 47.88%share of the park's total as the biggest contributor. This was due partly to hot sales of newer smartphone and tablet PC models launched, and partly to strong shipment by display panel manufacturers on surging consumer demand in China.

The sector finished the first eight months of this year with accumulative revenue of NT$194.763 billion, down 6.3%YoY,mostly because of the slowdown of global markets for LEDs and photovoltaic products, which led to drastic price drops to weigh on insiders as a result.

Meanwhile, the semiconductor sector, fueled by a persistently booming market for mobile Internet devices along with downstream customers actively restocking inventories, attained a new high of NT$54 billion in July-August revenue, significantly soaring 47.41%from a year ago to contribute 46.24%to the park's total. For the first eight months, the sector's aggregate revenue totaled NT$179.4 billion, rising 21.57%YoY.

Coincidentally, the precision machinery sector raked in about NT$18.1 billion in accumulative revenue for the first eight months,15.93%less than the same period of last year, mostly due to global economic doldrums that has held global enterprises back to procure new machines.

The biotechnological sector posted January-August revenue of NT$4 billion,up 21.55%YoY;the communication sector NT$2.4 billion,growing 14.66%,and the PC peripheral sector NT$1 billion,diving 1.34%.
