Japanese tiremaker Bridgestone is set to establish a new plant in Celaya City Guanajuato, Mexico with an investment of JPY1.4bn ($14.3m) for the production of polyurethane foam for automobile seats.
This new plant marks the company's tenth polyurethane foam manufacturing plant globally and first plant in Mexico.
The plant will be operated by Bridgestone Automotive Products de Mexico, a business unit of Bridgestone, and will commence production in the first half of 2015.
Polyurethane foam is a cushion material for use in automobile seats, which is created with Bridgestone's advanced resin processing technology. It reduces automobile vibrations and contributes to improved safety and comfort.
Located in 45,000m2 area, the new plant will create 100 new jobs by 2017 and is expected to produce foam for 360,000 vehicles annually.
Earlier this month, Bridgestone Tire Manufacturing Vietnam, a subsidiary of Bridgestone, announced its plans to invest JPY41.6bn ($422.8m) in its new passenger car radial tires (PSR) plant in Hai Phong City, Vietnam.
This move is aimed at increasing the production capacity of this new plant in order to growing demand for tires globally.
