WABCO, a tier-one supplier to the commercial vehicle industry, has been supplying the c-comp compressor with integrated clutch to two global original equipment manufacturers (OEM) since January 2013 in Europe.
Both the OEMs have their headquartered in Europe and are using the compressor in their heavy-duty trucks and buses.
The compressor technology is claimed to stop the compressor with a pneumatic signal when no air is needed and save about 550L of fuel a year during long haul operations of 200,000km.
According to the company, the c-comp compressor will complement the engines complying with the EURO VI emission standards that are expected to come into force by 2014.
C-comp obtains power from the engine during the pumping phase by completely switching off the long off-load phase that results in lower energy consumed by the compressor.
WABCO is also planning to introduce the compressors in the North American market in 2013.
