EFI and Landa Have Collaborated to Develop a New DFE Technology

Electronics For Imaging (EFI) and Landa have collaborated to develop a new digital front end (DFE) technology as part of Landa's end-to-end nanographic printing solution.

To be equipped with EFI's Fiery technology, the DFE will provide new functionality for sheetfed and webfed Landa nanographic printing presses in the commercial, folding carton, point-of-sale, publishing, and flexible packaging markets.

The technology will allow printing presses to operate at full printing speed for four to eight color printing and enable press operators to perform last-minute job changes on the press, to proof jobs and to print rush jobs on-the-fly.

Additionally, the DFE technology will collect production feedback from the printing presses while supporting closed-loop color control and inspection.

Landa DFE will also support all job dynamics such as static, variable data printing (VDP) and every page is different (EPID) printing.

Once developed, the technology will enable the Landa nanographic printing presses perform short-to-medium job lengths up to five times faster as compared to existing digital printing presses.

EFI CEO Guy Gecht said Landa presses can speed up the migration of mainstream commercial printing and packaging to digital printing.

"The Landa DFE provides a proven, ultra-high-speed and well-integrated front-end platform that Landa customers will require," Gecht added.

The new DFE is said to be compatible with printing operations including full offset, all-digital or hybrid offset/digital. With the technology, Landa nanographic printing presses will integrate into a printer's existing prepress, production, and business management workflow and finishing equipment.

According to EFI, the technology, which will also ensure consistency, accuracy and compliance to color standards, will allow high-speed, variable-data printing on any off-the-shelf B1 format substrate.

With current EFI Fiery platforms, the DFE will integrate with EFI's iMIS/ERP systems and with third-party prepress and workflow platforms, for streamlined job management and processing.
