German automaker Volkswagen is set to debut its new plug-in hybrid system concept car, twin up, at the Tokyo Motor Show to be held from 23 November – 1 December 2013.
The twin up is four-seater vehicle, which is claimed to offer a combined consumption of 1.1l per 100km.
Drive system of this new plug-in hybrid vehicle is equipped with a diesel engine, electric motor and dual-clutch gearbox (DSG), similar to the company's economical car, the XL1.
Located in the front, the drive unit of the vehicle has a system power of 55kW. It consists of a 0.8l TDI (35kW), an electric motor (35kW), a seven speed DSG and the power electronics.
Electrical system of the vehicle features a 12V battery. The vehicle is also equipped with a lithium-ion battery and a 33l capacity fuel tank.
The driver can switch the vehicle into all-electric mode by simply pressing the e-mode button.
