Taiwan-based Tatung on July 1 signed with the government of New Taipei City, northern Taiwan, to invest NT$300 million (US$10 million) to establish roof-mounted PV systems at 16 municipal high schools with a total installation capacity of 3MWp, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
Tatung will adopt solar wafers produced by its affiliate, Green Energy Technology, PV modules produced by its affiliate Apollo Solar Energy, and in-house system planning and engineering services to set up the PV systems, the paper noted.
The PV systems will be completed and begin power generation by the end of 2013, with electricity to be sold to the state-run Taiwan Power Company at government-set feed-in tariff rates, the paper indicated. The PV systems will generate an estimated three million kWh a year, equivalent to a reduction in carbon emissions of 1,608 metric tons, the paper pointed out.
