Taiwan's Imports of Small-Diameter Wire Rods in May Slumps by 36.3% From a Month Ago

According to statistics, Taiwan's imports of small-diameter wire rods (with diameter less than 14mm) totaled 24,498 tons in May, slumping by 36.3% from a month ago. However, the import prices averaged at NT$20,302/ton, jumping by NT$755/ton from the previous month and hitting the highest level since November, 2012. It's learned that Taiwan's imports of small-diameter wire rods surged substantially in March and April due to strong demand from screw makers. However, the import volumes dropped sharply in May as the small-screw makers have received less and less orders since April and caused market demand decrease.
