In the first three months of 2013, the USA imported a total of 6.093m m3 of softwood lumber, representing a year-on-year rise of roughly 16%. According to figures issued by the Foreign Agriculture Service the value of imported softwood roundwood increased during the same period by 53% to US$1.105bn. This means that the trend in import value largely reflects the sharp rise in softwood-lumber prices on the US market which was maintained until the end of the first quarter.
