Petra Solar, providers of technology that combines solar energy generation with smart grid communications, have announced the launch of their illumination policies yet make savings on energy consumption.
Featuring a two-way smart grid wireless communication, the IllumniWave street light control system enables remote control and management of street lights from a central location. Users will be able to schedule the turning on, dimming or turning off street lights remotely, at predetermined times, thereby saving energy at peak times. Data for energy consumption and analytics are provided via a secure web-based communications module built into Petra Solar’s IntelliView™ Smart Energy Management system, which can also be used for disaster response programmes and load control.
Dr Shihab Kuran, President and CEO of Petra Solar, explains, “IllumniWave uniquely combines smart grid communications and intelligence for remote monitoring, command and control of streetlights to promote energy efficiency and savings worldwide for municipalities and other street lighting providers. Having access to control the energy consumption of scores of streetlights every day not only gives a customer tremendous savings, it also enables environmental benefits associated with energy efficiency.”
Petra Solar says the IllumniWave devices “create a meshed smart grid communications network, which can work in tandem with Petra Solar’s SunWave™ pole-mount smart solar systems to transform street lights from a cost centre into a revenue generator over the life of the system.” Not only that, organisations will be able to manage bulb outages more effectively with automated alerts, rather than relying on the customer and thereby reducing maintenance service calls. Key features include:
• Reduce operational and capital expenses.
• Leverage Petra Solar’s smart grid deployment.
• Remote management and control.
• On/off remote control for off peak hours.
• Pre-programmed scheduling based on recurring or one-time event.
• Accurately report energy savings.
The IllumniWave device is mounted on streetlights using a twist-lock installation in a standard compliant 3-prong socket. Alerts on outages, energy consumption data and reports are managed through the IntelliView Lighting Control System (LCS). The LCS system’s dashboard provides detailed information, reducing the customer call-in volume and operational costs. The SunWave Smart Solar solution includes an integrated smart grid communication network and is the backbone for smart energy applications. When deployed, data is routed from each unit back to a secure data centre and via the IntelliView portal, users are able to remotely command and control all smart energy applications on the smart grid network.
