Corrugated packaging company Pratt Industries has recently commissioned a new $260m containerboard production line at its greenfield paper mill in Valparaiso, in the US state of Indiana.
The OptiConcept M board making line was supplied by Finland-based pulp, paper and energy industry service supplierValmet.
This 6.25m-wide PM 16 is a modular concept designed to use less water, electricity and raw materials and to offer design speed of 1,200 meters per minutes.
Pratt Industries global chairman Anthony Pratt said: "PM 16 is one of the industry's most efficient paper mills, employing 120 people to make 370,000 tons a year - twice the productivity of many competitor mills.
"It is the world's most environmentally-friendly paper mill and a showcase for the latest in 21st Century paper-making technology."
Valmet has supplied the complete production line of OptiConcept M board from headbox to winder. This is Valmet's first OptiConcept M installation in North America.
Said to be US's fifth largest corrugated packaging company, Pratt Industries has over 5,200 employees dedicated to the environment and sustainability. It is also said to be the world's largest, privately-held 100% recycled paper and packaging company.
The Valparaiso facility, located within the premises of Pratt's largest box plant, is the third of the four paper mills being built by the company in the US.
The mill will supply the company's Midwest operations, by 100% recycling up to 3,500 cubic yards of paper from landfills every day. Saving some 20,000 trees, the mill is claimed to prevent more than 700,000 gross tons of co2 emissions.
Pratt expects the facility to increase its annual revenues from $2.1bn to nearly $2.5bn.
