Global packaging firm Sonoco has purchased a 6-color direct-to-sheet digital printing press to produce point-of-purchase displays and other promotional packaging.
The press allows brand owners to respond rapidly to a dynamic retail and shopper environment without the requirement for costly overruns or printing plates, Sonoco said.

Sonoco said its digital solution offers improved print quality and display strength due to a touch-free printing process as well as reduced cost and lead time from the elimination of printing plates.
The solution also provides flexibility and short-run advantages due to the lack of price penalties for smaller quantities; durable, fade-resistant printing made possible by high-quality UV inks; and nearly unlimited customization opportunities from 100 percent digital processes.
Sonoco is engaged in providing a variety of consumer packaging, industrial products, protective packaging, and displays and packaging supply chain services.
Employing 21,000 people, the company has more than 300 operations in 33 countries.
Earlier this year, Sonoco has acquired US firm Highland Packaging Solutions for about $150m.
Highland Packaging is engaged in providing thermoformed packaging for fresh fruits, vegetables and eggs.
Sonoco will include the acquired business in its global plastics division. The firm will add Highland’s financial results to its consumer packaging segment.
