Esko, which provides solutions for the packaging, printing & publishing industries, has reported compliance with Ghent PDF Output Suite Version 5.0.

The new Ghent Workgroup PDF Output Suite 5.0 is claimed to ensure that workflows are fully compliant with PDF/X-4 which can help the printing and packaging industry to reach new levels of production accuracy.

The company stated that all the 48 test patches in the output suite are working using the Esko Softare Platform applications and workflows.

The software is being distributed as a series of PDF patches which can be applied by end users of graphic arts equipment and PDF files handling applications developers.

Processing results of the output suite in an Esko workflow were verified by the GWG Process Control Subcommittee. Esko claims to be the first company to achieve higher results across the entire software suite.

The Ghent Workgroup PDF Output Suite 5.0 was developed for users in the graphics arts industry, who process PDF files and as an aid to determine whether their workflows confirm to PDF/X standards.

It can also help in knowing whether or not workflows are behaving as expected and identify errors before customers’ work is impacted.

The software package has a six-page PDF, as an important tool with an amalgamation of 48 patches ready that start testing immediately. Each patch is used for testing a specific property of a PDF/X file.

Though the patches can be used separately, the main intention of the suite is that the patches can be grouped for an effective testing.

The new 5.0 version, when compared with its predecessor, the Ghent PDF Output Suite 4.0 has additional patches to test ICC based objects allowed in the PDF/X-4 standard. The Ghent Workgroup added these new patches to test device independent workflows. The patches do not use ICC-based blending spaces in isolated transparency groups since their processing is not clearly defined in PDF 1.6.

Esko director software engineering Lieven Plettinck said: “We have a long-standing relationship with the Ghent Workgroup, and as a result our solutions remain fully compliant as new developments occur. Our customers know that it is part of our ongoing commitment to product innovation to collaborate with a number of standards bodies to remain at the forefront of developments.

“As a result, with the introduction of advancements such as the Ghent Workgroup PDF Output Suite version 5.0 and our proven compliance, we can assure customers they will immediately benefit.”
