DS Smith Plans to Invest in New Machinery at Its Facility in Louth

UK-based packaging firm DS Smith is set to invest in new machinery at its facility in Louth, East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England.

Around 14 jobs are expected to be affected with the new investment, according to the company.

The changes are claimed to affect the company's sheetfeeding plant, which is located on the Fairfield industrial estate. At present, the company has two sites in Louth.

DS Smith sector director Tony Foster said the company proposes to restructure the business following its investment in new machinery and entered into a formal period of consultation with employees and their representatives in this regard.

"Regrettably there is a risk that this investment will bring about a reduced requirement in the business for certain roles, and as a result we may have to make redundancies in our Louth Sheetfeeding plant," Foster added.

During this period, the company said it is providing complete support to the site's employees and their families. It further aims to conclude the consultation period soon.

DS Smith produces corrugated packaging, plastic packaging and recycled paper through its sites across the UK, comprising Kemsley in Kent, and the Wansbrough Paper Mill in Watchet, Somerset.
