US-based designer and manufacturer of packaging and displays, Bay Cities has announced its sustainable version of the traditional clamshell, the cold seal BayPak.
Made of recycled corrugate printed with water based inks, the new BayPak removes a majority of plastic used in clamshells.
The BayPak, which is applicable to endless product sizes, shapes, weights, and retail environments, also uses 100% recycled RPET, which is smaller compared to the old plastic used on clamshells.
According to the company, the smaller packaging replaces plastic with recycled corrugate and reduces the constraints on the landfills by removing non-recyclable plastic from the waste stream.
Both the materials, the RPET plastic and corrugate can be a reusable source.
The BayPak is also said to be cost efficient and theft deterrent. As there is no heat sealing equipment required, there is reduced tooling cost and price savings of 20-40%.
