Clariant Healthcare Packaging, a business segment of Swiss specialty chemicals firm Clariant, has formed a partnership with PumpArt System to launch an airless dispensing technology called Tubairless.
Tubairless is a combination of an air chamber and a soft plastic pouch sealed within a flexible tube that protects like medicated creams, ointments, gels and pastes that are vulnerable to external moisture.
Clariant claims that the tube system's internal pump will avoid air-intake and product flow-back during dispensing.
Protection of pharmaceutical materials can be further improved by combining multiple protective barrier or active layers to the package.
Clariant Healthcare Packaging business development manager Elisa Le Floch said that the Tubairless design will appeal to both healthcare providers and patients.
"It not only can help address preservation issues as formulators look for ways to reduce or eliminate preservatives from formulations, but also can improve patient compliance with a user friendly experience," Le Floch added.
Tubairless uses 25-50% less plastic compared to conventional airless tube-pumps.
