Treofan, a producer of BOPP film, will invest about €30m in building a new 8.7m production line at its Neunkirchen plant in Saarland, Germany.
The new line, which was specially designed by Andritz, will manufacture packaging and label films with a wide range of thicknesses and densities.
At Neunkirchen plant, Treofan is aiming to manufacture about a billion square meters of film annually beginning mid-2015.
According to the company, the plant will have five-layer extrusion for producing films with a variety of properties with exact precision.
The new line will allow the company to integrate special functionalities directly into the film for better sustainability, eliminating the need for certain laminations.
The design also includes provisions for a possible extension of the plant and the addition of further process innovations as well as new products, including outside the food industry.
Treofan CEO Peter Vanacker said the new concept, which was jointly developed with Andritz, includes everything from raw material supply to a development of differentiated film portfolio.
"The design also includes close integration with our innovation center on the same site," added Vanacker.
Construction work on the new building is slated to start in this spring 2014, and the equipment will be installed at the end of the year.
