General Electric (GE) will step into the LED lighting market in Taiwan and plans to outsource LED bulbs and LED bars to Taiwan-based LED OEMs with shipments to begin in the fourth quarter of 2012, according to Jason Hsu, CEO of GE Taiwan.
GE will target Taiwan's LED lighting market initially and may extend the OEM business model to other markets globally, and therefore, the company will cooperate with local LED chipmakers on a long-term basis, Hsu said.
GE plans to target one or two local LED makers for cooperation as well as some supporting upstream and downstream partners, said Hsu, adding that GE will finalize the OEM partners in the third quarter to pave the way for volume production before year-end.
GE has been cooperating with Delta Electronics for power supply products and Cal-Comp Electronics for assembly of LED lighting products for North America.
