Emerald Has Introduced Two New 100% Active Foam Blast Defoamers for Coatings

Emerald Specialties Group, a business group of Emerald Performance Materials, has introduced two new 100% active FOAM BLAST defoamers for coatings and graphic arts, including both aqueous and energy curable (UV/EB) applications.

FOAM BLAST 4213 is an innovative, organo-modified silicone (OMS)/ synthetic antifoam product, while FOAM BLAST® 4149 is a synthetic block copolymer composition developed as a non-silicone alternative. Both new products offer excellent initial and long-term foam control for products such as interior and architectural coatings and flexographic inks, according to the company.

FOAM BLAST 4213 and 4149 can be added at low use levels (0.2–0.6%) during pigment grinding or let-down to achieve excellent long-term foam control and a superior finish free of defects, craters or fisheyes caused by foam. Both are low-VOC and free of alkylphenol ethoxylates (APE).

FOAM BLAST 4213 is optimized for excellent clarity in low-VOC architectural coatings, high-gloss coatings and water-based industrial coatings and flexographic/gravure inks. FOAM BLAST® 4149 is a mineral-oil-free defoamer that is highly recommended for acrylic emulsions, low-VOC coatings, high-gloss architectural coatings, high pigment load coatings and clear and waterborne wood coatings.

Emerald Specialties provides a broad range of FOAM BLAST and other defoamers for a wide variety of applications, including coatings, inks, adhesives and polymers, produced at its ISO-9001 certified operation in Charlotte, NC.
