Taiwan has implemented a new policy which requires restaurants and food vendors to specify declare the country of origin on beef products,in order to help consumers make informed choices.
The health officials have begun a two-month nationwide inspection to raise awareness about the new policy.As a part of the inspection,health officials will visit traditional markets,restaurants and supermarkets.
The new health policy has come into effect after the government lifted its ban on US beef containing traces of the leanness-enhancing drug ractopamine.The maximum permitted residue level of the drug set by the government is 10 parts per billion,reported Focustaiwan.tw.
This policy will also be expanded to include packaged food containing beef such as instant noodles and beef jerky.
