PV conductive paste maker Giga Solar Materials began shipments of front-side and back-side PV silver pastes in 2013 and expects to ship 240 tonnes of the PV materials in 2014, seven times the volume of 2013 and accounting for about 20% of global total, according to company president Huang Wen-jui.
The 2014 shipment growth has been driven mainly by significant increases in demand from China in the second half of 2014 amid a rush to install PV systems to meet the government-set target total capacity of 13GWp for the year, Huang said.
PV silver pastes account for 70% of total PV conductive paste shipments and over 60% of consolidated revenues, Huang noted. Giga Solar aims to hike its global PV silver paste market share to 30% in 2015, Huang indicated.
Giga Solar also expects to ship 4,000 tonnes of PV aluminum pastes in 2014, increasing 25% on year, Huang said, adding some China-based PV aluminum paste makers have stopped production after the China government imposed stricter regulations on environmental safety, causing a shift of orders to Giga Solar.
