Chroma Is Looking to Demand for Automated Equipment of Testing LED Lighting Devices

Tags: LED lighting

Chroma ATE, a Taiwan-based provider of in-house-developed automated testing solutions and equipment, is looking to demand for automated equipment of testing LED lighting devices arising from growing use of LED lighting, company chairman and CEO Leo Huang said an investors conference on August 7.

While growth in global demand for LED lighting has so far fallen short of original expectations, evolution in LED lighting products has been going on, Huang indicated. When new LED lighting products or existing LED lighting products with new specifications coming into volume production, replacement of manual testing with automated testing is an unavoidable trend, Huang said. Chroma has offered automated equipment of testing LED light bulbs with a daily capacity 14,000 bulbs and shipped the first set of such equipment in July, Huang said.

Among applications of Chroma's automated testing equipment, electric and electronic products accounted for 44.8% of second-quarter 2012 revenues, followed by semiconductors with 24.2%, LCD panels with 14.5%, passive devices with 7.8%, LED with 2.4% and PV (photovoltaic) with 0.8%.

Chroma expects automated testing equipment for electric and electronic products, ICs and LEDs to be main sources of growth in revenues in the second half of 2012.
