Intel Has Launched Its New Itanium Processor 9500 Series,Twice More Powerful

The new processors are claimed to offer up to 2.4 times performance scaling and 33% faster I/O speed over the previous generation

Chipmaker Intel has launched its new Itanium processor 9500 series which the company claims twice more powerful and optimised to undertake demanding workloads, including business analytics, database, and large-scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications.

Intel Itanium processor 9500 series will offer enhanced performance and an increase in reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) capabilities, the company claimed.

The new processors contain 3.1 billion transistors, are also claimed to deliver improved availability, error resiliency and performance increase over the previous generation.

In addition, the new processors are claimed to offer up to 2.4 times performance scaling and 33% faster I/O speed over the previous generation, with new capabilities such as the Intel Instruction Replay Technology.

Itanium processor 9500 series supports up to twice as many cores than the previous-generation processor, packs up to 54 MB of on-die memory, and enables up to 2 TB of low voltage DIMMs in a four-socket configuration.

In lower power configurations, the speed of the processor will be increased 40% over the previous generation and also offers frequencies ranging from 1.73 GHz at a power level of 130 watts, to 2.53 GHz at a power level of 170 watts.

The future generations of Intel Itanium processors are expected to adopt "Modular Development Model" that enables commonality between Intel Itanium and the Intel Xeon processor E7 family, from shared silicon design elements to full-socket compatibility.
