Infiniti, the luxury vehicle brand of the Japanese carmaker Nissan Motor, is planning to build the new compact premium car in-house at its European production plant.
The carmaker's plans follow a feasibility study with supplier Magna Steyr that begun in May 2012 to find out a probable third-party production location in Europe.
Scheduled to be launched in 2015, the new vehicle is expected to be built on a front-wheel-drive platform as of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
The collaboration between the Renault-Nissan Alliance and Daimler calls for powertrain and platform sharing, collective development of fuel-efficient vehicles and other projects globally.
