Canadian firm Pure Hothouse Foods has selected Solidus Solutions' solid board enriched with tomato plants fibers for packaging its recently launched Cloud 9 snacking tomato brand with high-flavor tomato.
UK-based manufacturer of solid board and solid board packaging, Solidus Solutions has developed a solid board using tomato plants fibers for packaging.
Solidus Solutions said that the Pure Hothouse Foods is the first company in Canada to pack tomatoes in their own plant fibers, contributing to a circular economy.
Additionally, France-based Idyl, which markets its own production as well as salads from Provence and a whole range of organic fruits and vegetables, has also opted for Solidus’ trays enriched with tomato plants fibers to reduce the impact on the environment.
Idyl markets a whole range of organic fruits and vegetables under the ‘Tribu Ecolo’ brand.
Solidus has earlier developed 1.5kg, 3kg, 5kg and 10kg solid board tomato trays using tomato plant fibres and even 250g to 500g tomato punnets for consumers.
The firm noted that the introduction of the Tribu Ecolo and Cloud 9 packaging enriched with tomato plant fibres, the customers marks a step forward in turning plant rest streams into valuable and recyclable raw materials.
Employing almost 1000 people, Solidus operates four solid board mills and four converting plants in the Netherlands, Belgium and the UK.
