A "Coalition" of UK Farming Organisations Has Unveiled a Ten-Point Plan

Farming "Dairy Coalition" Unveils Campaign Strategy

A "coalition" of UK farming organisations has unveiled a ten-point plan that it claims will help secure the long-term future of the country's dairy industry.

The plan, agreed by all members of the Dairy Coalition, focuses on "exposing bad prices", "redefining and empowering" the farmers role in the supply chain and "ensuring the supply chain is "transparent and fair".

Part of the plan will also now involve promoting British cheese, including calls for own-label supermarket cheese to be British.

The Dairy Coalition was set up in July and includes farmer organisations the National Farmers Union and Farmers for Action.

Its ten-point plan follows weeks of rancour in the dairy industry over the price farmers are paid for milk.

Processors' plans to cut prices this month sparked protests across the UK. The demonstrations succeeded in getting processors to either withdraw or postpone their plans and securing price increases from some retailers.

However, farmers continue to demand processors reverse cuts they made in May.
