Consumer goods giants Procter & Gamble (P&G) has expanded its sustainability goals to conserve resources, protect environment and improve social conditions.
As a part of its efforts towards sustaining environment, it will also try to double the company's use of recycled resin in plastic packaging.
P&G released its latest report which shows that it works according to 12 established environmental sustainability goals through which it aims at using renewable energy and renewable or recycled materials for all products and packaging. It is also working towards ensuring that zero consumer and manufacturing waste go to landfills.
P&G executive sponsor of sustainability and group president, global baby and feminine and family care Martin Riant said: "We continue to improve the environmental sustainability of our products across all aspects of their life cycle - from manufacturing, packaging and delivery through consumer use. We are reducing the environmental footprint of our products for shoppers, our communities and the Company while still delivering the quality and performance people expect from P&G products."
Since 2010 when it established its goals, the company has set 70 zero-waste manufacturing sites which has helped in the reduction of energy consumption, water use, C02 emissions, and truck transportation. It has also increased the use of renewable energy, with the number of virgin-materials certifications up substantially.
P&G has added more goals for 2020 which focus on water conservation and product packaging. It will reduce the use of water in its manufacturing facilities by an added 20% per unit of production with special focus on conservation efforts at facilities located in water-stressed regions.
The company will also try to ensure 90% of its product packaging is recyclable or that programs are in place to create the ability to recycle it.
"We're committed to grow P&G's business responsibly. We want to create industry-leading value for consumers and shareholders while conserving resources, protecting the environment, and improving quality of life for those who need it most. P&G's growth objectives and sustainability goals are mutually interdependent," added Riant.
