LED lighting vendor Top Hi-Tech and its partnering maker Nan Ya Photonics have obtained certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for explosion-proof LED lighting products, the first UL certification of its kind in the Greater China region, according to UL Taiwan.
Explosion-proof LED lighting products are specifically for use in hazardous environments such as petrochemical factories, oil refineries, power plants, and semiconductor factories where dust and flammable substances may easily cause an explosion.
For explosion-proof LED lighting certification strict design and testing requirements are imposed to prevent sparks, surface heat and other factors from giving rise to an explosion. Therefore, explosion-proof LED lighting has much higher technological barriers and gross margins than ordinary LED lighting.
According to ElectroniCast Consultants, global market value for explosion-proof LED lighting stood at US$160 million in 2014 and will grow to US$270 million in 2021.
