Spain’s Tuboplast CTL Group plans to invest $58.3m (€41.6m) to build a plastic tube plant in North Carolina, the US. The site will be the packaging supplier’s North American headquarters. The 42-year-old company currently has plants in Spain and France, and claims to be the third largest tube manufacturer in Europe, employing 700 and selling more than 500 million tubes per year. According to a news release from North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue, the Gaston plant will employ 131 within four years. The local subsidiary, CTL Packaging USA, will make packaging products for the cosmetic, personal care, food and pharmaceutical industries. “North Carolina, especially the Charlotte region, provides a specialized labor pool with technical knowledge in the plastics industry and the competitiveness we require for the success of our project,” said Manuel Diez, president of the subsidiary. Tuboplast CTL has two main units. Tuboplast Hispania is based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain. CTL Packaging is based in Charmeil, France. The company makes plastic tube, laminate tubes and caps.
