Butterfly Valve Seats Are Used in a Wide Range of Industrial Applications

Butterfly valve seats are used in a wide range of industrial applications. Below is a general guide for users to select their valve seat for their applications. When selecting seats for your butterfly valves, itas always better to check the pressure/temperature and corrosion resistant charts for more guidance or contact the factory for engineering help. It is to be noted that not all valves seats are available in all valves.

EPDM (Ethylene-propylene diene monomer). EPDM has good chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, ketones, alcohols, silicone oils, etc., Rated for temperature -51 C to 149 C and has good weather and ozone resistance. EPDM are not strictly recommended for applications with petroleum oils, mineral oil, di-ester lubricants, or fuel exposure.

Buna-N (Nitrile) is the widely used elastomer in the seal industry, commonly called as NBR, NITRILE, or HYCAR. It has excellent resistance to petroleum products and its ability to be compounded for service over a temperature range of -40C to 125C. Nitrile provides good compression set, tear and abrasion resistance but has poor weather and ozone resistance and moderate heat resistance

PTFE is a common synthetic seat material well known as Teflon. It has excellent insulating capabilities and high dielectric properties. PTFE is used in many seal material due to its low friction, high chemical resistance, and fire resistant properties. Teflon comes in variety of grades to withstand high temperature stability allows for continuous use at 260C. This is suited for lower pressure valves and has limited strength. It is most often used with a rubber backup as it does not have the resilience of rubber.

FKM (VITON, Fluorocarbon) is a well known elastomer for its broad range of chemical compatibility in the rubber industry. Due to its extensive chemical compatibility this material is used as common seal material in many valves. It is resistant to hydrocarbon products and mineral acids, both dilute and concentrated solutions. However, it should never to be used in steam applications and works poorly in water service. Rated for temperature -32C to 240C.

Butterfly valve seats are having the following advantages:

1. valve seal provides excellent operational performance

2. High reliability seal

3. good quality valve seat has extended service life

4. Low Torque Operation values

5. provides excellent sealing performance

6. used in Wide range of applications

7. Wide range of temperature

8. valve seat are Customized to specific applications according to the customer requirement
