Archer Daniels Midland plans to build a facility in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, with an investment of $250m.
To be located adjacent to the company's existing site in Campo Grande, the complex will produce a range of functional protein concentrates and isolates, which will be marketed by ADM's Foods & Wellness group.
The products will provide South American customers with options to add prote in to a range of food and beverage products.
ADM Oilseeds senior vice president and president Matt Jansen said that the company is making this investment to support its customers as they meet increasing consumer demand for protein.
"This complex will allow us to produce these functional ingredients locally, allowing us to serve more efficiently the growing needs of our food and beverage customers throughout South America," Jansen added.
Construction of the plant is expected to commence in the third quarter and about 80 staff will be based at the facility.
