LED Lighting May Be Increasingly Popular Now

LED lighting may be increasingly popular now - especially with rising energy bills leading more and more homeowners to explore eco-friendly and energy-saving solutions - but some property owners are still a little reluctant when it comes to installing the new technology.

But as the founder of south-west England-based design consultancy Cornish Interiors Cathryn Bishop notes, LED lighting technology has made leaps and bounds in recent years - and now the bulbs are as subtle and practical as traditional incandescent bulbs.

"Far from being futuristic, using LED (light emitting diode) lighting in the home is becoming increasingly popular and can even help to reduce your energy bills," said the expert. "LED lights, while more expensive to buy than conventional halogen options, use less electricity and last longer, so pay for themselves over time.

"There has also been a huge improvement in the range of LED lights available in recent years - from dimmable options to different colours and shades of light - making them extremely versatile.

"The secret to LED lighting is that you should see the light and not the source. Try recessed downlights, where the bulb is sunk into the fitting so it sits flush with the ceiling.  For a contemporary look, choose a bezel that matches your ceiling colour, in a matte finish."

Which means there is a complementary LED lighting option for every room. LED bathroom lights can be fitted in wetrooms and bathrooms alike, and LED bulbs can even be mounted behind a mirror or in a mirror-finish cabinet.

Similarly, flush ceiling lights can illuminate everything from a high-roofed hallway to a snug lounge with only a tiny ceiling footprint. That way, the light complements any existing decorative flourishes you already have installed - without the need for messy and intrusive installation.
