Megaport, a plastics film and packaging company based in Bulgaria, has opened an €1.84m plastics waste recycling facility at Veliko Turnovo, a city in the western part of Bulgaria.
Equipped with advanced recycling machinery, which has been provided by the Austrian firm Erema, the plant has a capacity to take up to 1,800kg of waste per hour and process it into 1,200kg of polymer re granulate, reports European Plastics News.
This plant is located close to the company's main packaging and recycling facility in the city.
The new facility, which employs more than 30 people, will source its polyethlene material primarily from waste collection and processing facilities in the urban locations of Sofia and Varna.
Megaport's new facility has been established under the 'green' industry investments section of the government's operational development scheme, called 'Development of the Competitiveness of the Bulgarian Economy'.
Around six years ago, the company installed plastics recycling line at its existing Veliko Tarnovo facility, which processes polypropylene and PE waste.
