Total Imports of Hardwood Into The EU Showed Year-on-Year Decline of 10%

Total imports of hardwood, softwood and tropical plywood into the EU showed year-on-year decline of 10% to 3.4m m3 in 2012. ITTO reports that import value showed a more moderate decrease of 3.5% to €1.23bn. With a minus of 19% to 288,000 m3, imports of tropical plywood showed the sharpest fall. Here, the continuous downward trend which has been evident since 2007, apart from a short break in 2010, has continued. Imports of non-tropical hardwood plywood decreased in 2012 by 7.6% to 1.91m m3 and thereby increased their share in total deliveries due to the below-average fall. In contrast, softwood-plywood imports declined more sharply, by 11.5% to 1.2m m3.
