Minerals Technologies has signed an agreement with UPM-Kymmene Corporation to build a satellite precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) plant in Changshu, China.
To be located in Jiangsu province on site at UPM's paper mill, the new satellite plant will provide PCC, a specialty pigment for filling and coating high-quality paper, and will have an initial capacity of 100,000 short tons.
Minerals Technologies CEO Robert Wetherbee said that the deal is the company's fourth satellite agreement in China within approximately one year, bringing its total to seven.
"This contract confirms the momentum of our geographic expansion strategy, and demonstrates the value of developing an organization well positioned to successfully operate the growing network of satellite plants in China," Wetherbee added.
The PCC plant is expected to be operational in early 2015.
