Crown Beverage Packaging North America has designed new limited edition cans with photochromic inks for Molson Coors beer brand, Coors Light.
The six limited edition cans with sunlight-activated specialty inks and printing have been developed under the Coors Light Summer Certified cans program.
Available in 355ml and 473ml sizes, the series of Coors Light collector cans are slated to be released in phases across the summer.
According to Crown Beverage Packaging North America marketing director Ron Skotleski, the six cans are based on variations of geometric designs, which feature Coors Light’s mountain shape and updated visual identity.
Crown has used a range of yellow, orange and purple inks, in addition to colder certified blue in the designing of the cans.
Coors Light assistant marketing manager Garrick Frittelli said: “This innovation, which leverages both photochromic and thermochromic inks, will be a key differentiator for Coors Light this summer.
“These inks will bring the can to life like never before by revealing bold, bright colors when the cans are exposed to the sunlight.”
Earlier this month, Crown opened its first beverage can manufacturing facility in Nichols, New York, US.
The new facility is located in Tioga County Industrial Park in Nichols and it produces two-piece aluminium cans in a range of sizes. The plant is expected to create about 160 new jobs by 2018.
Through its subsidiaries, Crown provides packaging products to consumer marketing companies across the world.
Molson Coors produces different beer brands ranging from Coors Light, Miller Lite, Carling, Staropramen and Sharp’s Doom Bar to Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Blue Moon Belgian White, Hop Valley, Creemore Springs Premium Lager and Crispin Cider.
