US-based ice cream company Ben & Jerry's has announced that the company will label all its products with respect to GMO by the end of 2014.
The company will exclude all genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in its ice cream products and is going GMO-free by the end of 2013.
Ben & Jerry's claims 80% of its ingredients by volume in the US and Canada are sourced non-GMO at present.
The company, which is a supporter of GMO food labeling, decided to shift to 100% non-GMO ingredients. It already is about 80% non-GMO in its ingredients.
GMOs are organisms that have had their genetic makeup (DNA) altered through genetic engineering in a way that does not occur in nature or through traditional cross-breeding methods.
